As a large business and a major provider of specialist services, we at PTSG recognise our leadership role in the construction and FM sectors and the opportunity to make a real and measurable difference through our corporate social responsibility.

For Premier Technical Services Group Ltd (PTSG), which occupies a significant part of the supply chain in the construction and FM sectors, we can ensure our 2,700+ people act in a responsible way at all times – on and off site. We can also aim to influence the behaviour of those we work with.

We view CSR as a self-regulating part of our business model. It helps us to be socially accountable – to ourselves, our customers and the public. To engage in CSR means that, in the ordinary course of business, PTSG operates in ways that enhance society and the environment, instead of contributing negatively to them.

Charity

As PTSG is a network of 47 UK offices, teams from our different offices regularly undertake their own charitable endeavours. Similarly, individuals from across the Group also take part their own fundraising endeavours, which we wholeheartedly endorse.

We celebrate all efforts in our company newsletter, from marathons to the Three Peaks Challenge to Macmillan Coffee Mornings. The gallery below shows just a few of our recent achievements.

Contribution to the communities in which we work

As a large company with a local presence in many different areas of the UK, we have a duty to make a positive difference in the communities in which we work. Where possible, we use a workforce within a 25-mile radius and concentrate our spending within a 60-mile radius of each site.

This contributes to the multiplier effect; the money we spend locally goes back into the economy in that area, thus allowing the community to thrive. Companies with a strong local presence, such as PTSG, have a positive effect on the environment, too. Being situated close to the project site reduces the amount of driving and the pollution created as a result.

We also strive to recycle as much of the material on site as possible. For example, if we are required to remove existing products or equipment, our first concern is whether they can be reconditioned or repurposed and used again elsewhere. Where this isn’t possible, we ensure all materials are recycled where possible.

Commitment to a low-carbon future

PTSG aims to become a net zero organisation in line with the government mandate of 2050. We are proud that the constituent offices within each of our five business divisions are each playing their part to achieve this.

  • PTSG’s energy use has been meticulously monitored and recorded for a number of years across all offices in which we work. Recommendations are drawn from this data and made by the Group’s HSEQ team, one example being the use of energy-efficient LED lighting.
  • The challenges of switching to an all-electric fleet at PTSG are significant due to the distances driven by engineers on a daily basis and the current lack of charging points. This will improve over time as more and more charging points become available.

In the meantime, many of our vehicles have changed to petrol form diesel, which is less carbon-emitting. Where possible, we use hybrid vans.

  • Innovation plays an important part in becoming carbon neutral. Two of our recent initiatives include:
    • Remote Temperature Monitoring. PTSG can avoid sending engineers to site to carry out manual temperature monitoring, thus helping us meet our carbon reduction targets. It also means we can save our clients time, money, carbon consumption and improve their compliance.
    • PTSG’s Lateral Access System has transformed the way in which we carry out maintenance at large buildings such as sports stadia. The system, which uses rope access methods, offers huge savings compared with scaffolding and cherry picker devices. It can be used without any disturbance to building users, eliminating downtime.
